Short vs Full Family Sessions in Atlanta: Which One Is Right for Your Family?

Client Tips

Your family session is about so much more than just photos—it’s about connection. The laughter, the movement, the quiet in-between moments that make your story yours.

Whether we’re at home or chasing golden light outdoors, my goal is always the same: to create a space where your family can relax, play, and simply be yourselves. I’ll gently guide you with natural, easy prompts so nothing feels forced—just joyful, connected, and true to your sweet season of life.

If you’re deciding between a full session and a shorter session, here’s how to think about which one might be the best fit for your family.

Full Family Sessions

For a relaxed, storytelling experience

Full sessions are designed to feel slow, easy, and completely unrushed. We have time for your kids to warm up, time to explore, and space for both the big, joy-filled moments and the quieter, more tender ones.

These sessions typically last around an hour and truly flow at your family’s pace. Because of that, we’re able to capture a wide variety of images—everything from playful, movement-filled moments to soft, snuggly connection.

You’ll also receive wardrobe and styling guidance, and we’ll choose a location together that feels like a natural fit for your family.

Full sessions include:

  • ~60 minutes together
  • 75+ hand-edited images
  • Custom location
  • Styling guidance

This is a great fit if:

  • You have young kids who may need time to warm up
  • You want a relaxed, low-pressure experience
  • You love a mix of candid and gently guided portraits
  • You want a full gallery that tells the story of your family

Short Story Sessions

For something simple, intentional, and easy

Short Story sessions are a more streamlined option while still capturing the heart of your family. These are shorter (about 30 minutes) and take place at one of my go-to locations that I know photographs beautifully.

We’ll still focus on connection and natural moments—just in a more condensed timeframe. These sessions are perfect if you’re looking for something meaningful without the longer time commitment.

Short sessions include:

  • ~30 minutes together
  • 20–30 hand-edited images
  • Pre-selected location options
  • Light styling guidance

This is a great fit if:

  • Your kids warm up quickly
  • You’re wanting something simple and efficient
  • You don’t need a large gallery
  • You love a more minimal, intentional approach

So… which one should you choose?

If you’re unsure, I usually recommend a full session—especially for families with little ones. Having that extra time makes such a difference in how relaxed the experience feels, and it allows for more natural, connected moments to unfold.

That said, there’s no wrong choice- we will make either work! Both options are designed to feel easy, joyful, and true to your family.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos, I’d love to work together. You can reach out here to start planning your session, and I’m always happy to help you decide which option feels like the best fit.
